Wandering about in web-land
I am at work, nothing new to report as far as crafting. but I have a bunch more links that I need to explore further.

OH! Almost forgot! I bought some cool track lighting for my sewing room. My cutting area is really dark, and I need all the help I can get with accurate cutting. Not sure when I (meaning: hubby) will be able to install them but hopefully soon.

Organizing.
My mom has been visiting (the sewing room is also the guest room) so I haven't sewn anything, but I did get a whole bunch of plastic storage totes yesterday and have been trying to organize my stuff. I am pleased with the result so far. I still have a lot of stuff and not a lot of room, but I am trying to make it work.
One of my goals is to get rid of some awful Xmas blocks from a block exchange many years back. I don't like Xmas quilts, and I didn't even like most of the people in that group, so why I have held on to these things is a mystery. But today I took my beautiful block out of the stack, folded the rest up, and put them next to the computer to remind myself to post them on Freecycle and Craigslist. I still can't bear to just toss them in the trash. Why am I like this? Who knows. I struggle with throwing things out and I always have.
Since buying this house, I have been trying to make my stuff fit, and the only way that will happen (short of adding on to the house) is to get rid of some things. Our house isn't that small, 1300 square feet plus a big garage we aim to finish out into a room for hubby. Not huge, but perfectly adequate for 3 people and a handful of ungrateful animals. So it's time for me to learn to let go of some things. I am happy with my progress in the past year. I could always do more, but with a toddler, it's hard to stick to a timeline. My goal for this project, as with everything else in my life right now, is FORWARD PROGRESS. That's it. Even if it's just one small step. Or making a to-do list. Or pondering how I might blog about thinking about writing a to-do list someday. Every little bit has to count, because many days, that's all I can manage!
Mom leaves tomorrow. I have enjoyed her visit, as usual. Her bond with her grandchild is so magical. Seeing two people I love making each other so happy - what a blessing.
Hoping for some sewing to report tomorrow after work. I cut a big block for my scrap quilt and am eager to put it together.

Progress!
I finally started cutting into a quilt I am making for a good friend of the family. I have been scared to start...the fabric is beautiful and expensive, and I don't want to mess it up! But my mom is here and gave me the courage to get started. It is a simple square design, with hand-dyed solids in muted colors. I have 8 fat quarters to cut up, and I finished 2 tonight. This is my first time NOT using the grid lines on the cutting mat, and I hope it helps my accuracy. There is some room for error in this pattern and I think I am going to be happy I chose something so forgiving.
After completing those 2 fq's I cut up some scraps for a scrap quilt I am working on. When I laid them out to show my mom how they will go together, it was all wrong! Ack, how frustrating. I was too tired to figure out where I went wrong so I have my work cut out for me tomorrow. I copied the pattern from a photo of a scrap quilt I saw on craftster, so I had to do all the measurements myself. I am usually good at this sort of thing so I am surprised I messed it up. I am curious to see where I went wrong. I have already done 12 small blocks for this quilt so I hope those aren't messed up too. Here is a link to the quilt I am copying:

Working on getting pictures posted of the things I mention here. Still figuring out how this is going to be formatted, but I am glad I started this blog. And I must say, I really enjoy being in my sewing room. It still needs a lot, but it is functional and cute and most of all, it's mine. So thankful to have the opportunity to have a dedicated space in our house for my creative stuff, even if I have to share it with guests when they visit :)

A place for my stuff.
Day after day I see these awesome crafty blogs and websites that fill my head with ideas. For the sake of simplicity I decided to start this blog as a place to list them all. After being away from crafting for about 2 years due to the birth of my kid, I am trying to get back into it. Over the past couple of months I have made it a priority - self-care isn't something I am great at, but it needs to happen. Sitting in my sewing room and creating stuff brings me peace, so I need to do it more often. I am pretty proud of my results so far - I never have a lot of time, but I try to make the most of what I have. I decided that documenting my projects and thoughts might help to further keep me creating.
So the reality is, this blog is 100% for me, and not really for you at all. But if you are here and reading, I hope you find something that interests or inspires you.
